Lunch with dear friends

Our community lost a wonderful man this fall, Dan T.  He was the epitome of kindness and grace and we share the sorrow of so many.  Dan gave Jackson his very first guitar, when Jackson was only 3 years old!  I'll never forget that night... we were at Dan and Sherry's house enjoying a night of music in their living room.  Jackson sat down right in front of Dan and was riveted by Dan's guitar playing.  He sat there for hours listening to Dan and watching his every move.  Dan ended the evening by giving that guitar he had been playing to Jackson!  I was a bit horrified :) that Dan would give something that special to a 3 year old, but Dan was so encouraging.  He said he felt that little boy was so interested that he needed that encouragement.  Within weeks Jackson had worn callouses on his little fingers playing with that guitar.  Indeed, Jackson grew up to be a guitar player, too!  And I often think of Dan when I see Jackson play.

Dan's large loving family gathered to pay tribute to him.  While sad for the reason for their arrival in town, we were glad to be able to have lunch with Carrie, Kiersten, and Brittney at Take Root Cafe.  There is never enough time to spend together, but we sure enjoy what time we get.  Love these people!  (Sherry, you come next time!)

One more note on dear Carrie... she was a student nurse back in 1999 when Jonathan was born.  This dear and wonderful woman arranged her schedule to be in the OB area that day just so she could be the one to take care of me following delivery.  She was quite literally a part of Jonathan's life from the moment he was born!  Love her so much!
