Since Jackson and Brianna have
their new house, that means that we are transitioning the use of
their first little house. While Jonathan isn't quite moving in yet, he is setting it up as a retreat and we are also contemplating trying to get approval to list it with Airbnb. (That is still up in the air as we haven't even fully decided yet whether we want to attempt the process or not...) But either way, we have a lot of work that has to be done at the house. What we thought was going to be a somewhat quick series of projects has turned into a rather long slog due to many extenuating circumstances (mostly health related!). However, we are plugging along and progress is being made, albeit slowly.
This photo was taken the day we transferred the keys from Jackson to Jonathan. :) The official transition began.

This color on the walls served Jackson and Brianna well,
but we wanted to change it up a bit. |
 |
Jonathan would laugh when he would walk in and see
me looking at various paint colors... AGAIN. |
 |
Then I narrowed it down to a few choices
and painted some sample sections. |
We ended up choosing Smokestack for most of the house. For reference that is the color that is painted 2nd from the left on the bottom row of samples.
This may look really strange, but this is the incredible handiwork of my dear friend, Deb. Turns out she loves to paint and actually finds it relaxing! Who knew!? (Everyone should have a dear friend like Deb!) She is a pro at cutting in paint along edges and she did everything you see below by hand. She prepped it perfectly for me to come along with the roller later.

| Look at Deb go! Amazing! |
We decided to paint the one kitchen wall a different color as an accent wall. We chose Power Gray which was the 3rd from left on top row of those samples. It compliments the Smokestack nicely, I think. This was just me getting some up on the kitchen wall to see how it would look.

| I really do like the color Smokestack throughout the house. |

We are painting
the garage room that same Power Gray that we used for the kitchen accent wall. It looks a bit odd at first on top of the darker colors that were already in there, but I am excited about how it will look when it is completely done. It is also funny to me how one paint color, in this case Power Gray, looks like three different paint colors on the different colored walls. You wouldn't just guess that it is the same color on the dark blue garage room wall, the dark brown garage room wall, and the kitchen accent wall. But it is! :)
Deb is so much better at all of this painting and renovation than we are. She raised our standards and we are much better for it! Because of her good advice we took the closet doors off and brought them home to paint them. We also removed the blinds and brought them home to thoroughly deep clean them before putting them back up. Plus that made it easier to paint those areas.

Side note... take a look at this
really cool blinds cleaner!! You will want one, too, I think!!
Also,
this video shows how we cleaned the blinds. It worked like a charm!

We still have a lot of work to do, but it feels good to have the painting (mostly) finished. We will clean the carpets one more time then start moving furniture and belongings in. That will feel good, for sure!
