Last Sunday

We drove down to be with our dear friend, Rev. Jim, as he preached his last sermon.  He retired from his retirement job last Sunday, capping off several decades of love and service and pastoral care.  It is sort of hard for me to believe that he is truly retired this time since the last time he retired (from our home church) he and Linda immediately took on smaller churches to serve.  But this time he is retired 'for real' and we are all so happy for him.  We know he is looking forward to more time for golfing, bowling, camping and relaxing and certainly, no one deserves that more than Jim.  We also know that there is melancholy in that his dear Linda can't be with him in this time that they both planned for and imagined.

Jim's last sermon was wonderful, as usual.  (My heart sort of aches to know I won't hear another one...) He reminded us that love is powerful and we are to do it well.  We are to be good to one another.  And that we certainly want to 'do our best' for our Lord.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  There is no commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:30-31

It was so good to be with Jim on that special day.  Our hearts are full.
