Bed in a box

Marvin and I purchased a 'Bed in a Box'.  Just think... 2 weeks ago I was so behind the times I didn't even know such a thing existed!  ;)  But, after sleeping on one in my cousin Liz's guest bedroom, I was completely sold.  Marvin and I have been needing a new mattress for a couple of years now.  But the idea of shopping for a new one seemed daunting.  And we haven't had the best luck with previous mattress purchases, regardless of the price point.  So, when I learned that we could buy an affordable mattress that offered great support, I was IN!

Shonda and I looked at several places in KC but weren't able to find quite what I was looking for.  Then Shonda suggested we look at amazon.  Of course!  There it was.  I came home and placed my order for our very own 'bed in a box'.

It arrived on the Tuesday before I was scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday.  We were a bit busy.  :D But, since the mattress needs a couple of days to completely unfold and 'fluff up', we just laid it out on our mud room floor.  I know it was a surprise to folks who visited us for those few days!  :D

Marvin and Jonathan switched it out with our old mattress on Friday after my surgery.  I have to tell you that the mattress is definitely firm.  But, if you are interested in that level of support, I think you would be happy with this mattress.  We have now slept on it for a week and it seems to have softened up a bit more.  Marvin and I both agree that we are sleeping through the night better.  And we wake up without as many aches and pains.  Plus, if we decide down the road that we prefer a different mattress, we aren't out a ton of money.  We are totally satisfied.

Here are pictures chronicling the unpacking and 'fluffing up' process.

can you believe there is a queen sized bed in that box??

there it is!

getting it arranged on the sheet on the floor so they can cut the shrink wrap

I thought it looked pretty good straight out of the box, actually...

Then this is what it looked like Friday morning.  Completely filled out and laying flat.  Ready to put on our bed frame.

We purchased the Sleep Innovations Taylor 12-inch Gel Swirl Memory Foam Mattress.  (Sleep Innovations is the brand Liz has, but her specific bed doesn't appear to be a currently available model...)

I might consider purchasing either the Sleep Innovations Shea 10" Memory Foam Mattress or the Sleep Innovations Alden 14-inch Memory Foam Mattress if I had to choose again.  We do like the Taylor, but it is definitely firm!  I think Liz's had a bit more give to it and wonder if it isn't closer to the Shea or Alden.

*Update... the more we sleep on the Taylor mattress, the more we like it!  It is getting softer (without losing any support).  I think these mattresses just need a little 'breaking in time'.  We are definitely sleeping better and waking up more refreshed and without pain.*

*Update #2.... I absolutely LOVE this bed!!*   :D

*Update #3... Several friends have purchased the Shiloh and it may be the best one of all!
