Recently I was asked to help create a video to share at a local immigration day celebration. Somehow that was the catalyst - everything came together for me and I finally figured out exactly 'how' I wanted to present my project. Thus, Portraits of Northeast Missouri was finally born.
Let me explain the name... I dreamed this up back when Jackson was in high school and living at home. I imagined that we would work on this project together and that he would take interesting portraits of my interviewees to create a coffee table type book. Although we are long since past that idea working, I kept the name. Primarily, because I feel that the various interviews will, in fact, 'paint a portrait' of our diverse community.
I had questioned whether the project would work best as a coffee table book, or a blog format (mostly written word) or in a video format on YouTube. I finally decided that a mix of the last two options was the best route. So, here is a link to my new blog where I will be writing up short introductions to accompany videoed interviews embedded in the posts. https://portraitsofnemo.blogspot.com
I hope to go back and edit the 2 interviews from 2014 and get them uploaded soon. Then I will begin seeking out interviewees for future posts.
Here are links to the two posts already on the new blog.

Immigration Day video - https://portraitsofnemo.blogspot.com/2017/05/immigration-day-video.html
And here is the Facebook page I set up to share each new post as it becomes available. https://www.facebook.com/PortraitsofNEMO/
I hope you will join me as we get to know our friends and neighbors a little bit better.

Very intetesting!!! I have been interviewing folks in Scotland and Knox counties this year. But it was about what they think is going wrong and right when it comes to kids abusing substances. Some talked about their childhood compared to today and there sure are BIG differences. Let me know if you want names of folks from there or any other insights from my 22 interviews with key informants.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jen! Your project sounds very interesting, too! It is always a good thing to get out there and interact with our fellow north Missourians.
