Making tiles

Many of the tiles from the old mosaic were lost when our local Arts Center burned a few years ago.  Some were able to be restored, but as the new Arts Center is being constructed, the call came out for the community to come and make new tiles for a new mosaic.  Many responded and over 2,000 tiles were created in the last few weeks.

Shonda and I made a special tile in honor of our little grandson who will be born in May.  As we made the tile together we thought about how thankful we are for the blending of our families and we envisioned taking our little guy to find his tile on the new building at some point in the future.  How exciting it will be to see how this piece of clay will be preserved and painted and added to the beautiful mosaic that represents our community.

We also made a couple other tiles.  You can see by the handiwork who is good at crafts and who isn't.  :D  hahahaha!  But, it is the thought that counts, right?  Again, I love the idea of these mementos becoming a part of the larger tapestry of our community life.  And I feel certain that the preservation and painting will make them look much more beautiful!!  :)

had to have a tile to honor Mama and Daddy

Shonda made this tile to commemorate Alaina working for
Sue Ross at Windriff Farm for a few years.  (the arts center
is going to be named for Sue Ross)

Unbeknownst to me, Shonda took this photo
of 'Laura crafting'.  Yes, the struggle is real.  ;)

And there it is... the moment I used the wrong side of the stamper!  :)

A tile for me and Marvin.  Note the upside down 3 instead of an E in the LEM.  :)
THAT is what Shonda captured in her photo above. hahahahaha!

I did end up making one more tile after the Sojourners Club meeting.  This one was for our Wine Club.  It was not lost on me that the wine bottle looks more like a chicken drumstick or an actual club... ha!  However, I will get great joy out of seeing any and all of these tiles (and those others have created) on the new Arts Center building.  They represent many connections and relationships across our great community.

Melinda stood with me as representatives of our wine club.  :)
