I think I may win...

You know how periodically someone will clean out their spice cabinet and find an old spice lurking in the back?  Well, I kind of think I may win the contest for oldest spice.  Take a look at what I discovered in the very back of my spice cabinet... when I first saw it I recognized that container shape.  I remember when that is how Tones spices were packaged.  I knew it wasn't current but couldn't think how long it had been since this packaging was the norm.

I opened it up and believe it or not, there was still a decent scent of curry there.  I mean, I know it IS curry powder, but still... it wasn't faint!  

So, how old is this spice?  Let's see... turn it over and find a date.  Hmmmmmm... WHAT?  February of 1985 is its BEST BY date?????  I was a junior in high school in February 1985!!  What on earth?  Then it dawned on me.  I share this honor with my dear Mama.  What must have happened is that Mama still had this spice in the back of HER spice cabinet when we moved up here in June 1996 and moved into their old house to house-sit for a few years.  Then apparently, I moved that spice with me when we built OUR house in 2001!  hahahahaha!  This seriously cracks me up!

And for the record... I dumped the spice but kept the tin.  It's really kind of cool!  ;)
