Here I am nearing the end of April and I realize I have let the blog fall by the wayside quite a bit. Here is a quick 'catch-up' post to try to commemorate some of the happenings of April. :)
Kerry and Candace came up for a quick visit near the beginning of April when Kerry participated in the
History of Science Junto held this year at Truman. Sunday afternoon we enjoyed seeing a slideshow of photos from his recent trip to Italy and Germany. It was so nice to have Rachel join us, too - we sure do like having her live close enough to come down for a weekend!

A selection of Jackson's photos are on display at our local Arts Center as part of an area high school student art festival. Jackson and I ran up to see his work and were thrilled to find it on the wall as we walked in the lobby. I thought they looked great against the deep color of the wall.

| Whoops… guess he isn't so patient anymore! :D |
So, this was a funny story. My friend Donna called and asked me if I would do a favor for her. She is trying to work out a way to make rice flour more economically than buying it already ground; so wondered if my grain mill could grind the rice finely enough for her to use. She asked if I would mind grinding her a sample of rice flour to send back to her via a friend who was in our town on a business trip. Sure, I said! I would be happy to grind her some rice flour and deliver to her friend who was staying at a local hotel. I ground up the rice (into a very nice flour, I might add) then put it into a baggie to take to her friend. When I realized I would have to leave it for him at the front desk of the hotel I took a second look at the baggie. Hmmmm… I started thinking that considering 'my reputation' in this town… (see
here and
here midway down!) maybe it would look a little funny to just deliver a baggie of powder to a hotel! :D I quickly scrounged around for a little box and gift bag and ended up delivering this to the front desk instead. :)
I was kind of inwardly nervous about delivering 'the package' but took a deep breath and walked confidently into the hotel lobby, even mustering a smile for an arriving hotel guest at the front door. Feeling good about how 'innocent' it all looked, I marched up to the desk clerk and stated the name of the guest for whom I was leaving the package. She looked at me kind of funny then said, "Well, that was HIM that you just walked past…" Whoops! :) ha! I sure hope that rice flour works out for Donna. Who knew it could be so stressful!!??!! :D

Busy month! I laughed over the rice flour story. LOL
ReplyDeleteLaura, I FINALLY got the flour a week later! I met with our courier the next day. We biked for two hours, and both totally forgot about the package. I had to have him mail it to me from Kansas!
ReplyDeleteBtw....is it ok to say this here?? He told me "Tell your friend thanks for the adorable pink gift. Now the girl at the hotel front desk thinks I'm gay." :D
The flour would work for some things I bake. Unfortunately, I don't think it's gonna replace the $4/lb. superfine rice flour.
