Memorial Day

May 29, 2023

Remembering Mama
Not only was this Memorial Day, it was the 2 year anniversary of the day Mama died.  It was also the day we ended up celebrating Maverick's 3rd birthday together as a family.  All of that seemed fitting - the sharing of joys and sorrows - the true tapestry of love and family and even loss.

After enjoying a birthday lunch with Maverick it was time to head to the cemetery to take flowers to Mama's headstone.  They are beautiful.  Red for passion, white for purity.

Daddy was telling us how he thinks of Mama and misses her every single day.
I know he does.  Love him so much.

I truly love this photo.  Carlile was asleep in his car seat so not in it...
but no one was willing to wake up a sleeping baby for a photo.  :)
Mama would understand this, too.  :)

I love having Zac in our family photo.

Another generation of kids crawling over family headstones.  This is exactly how I want it to be.

I have vivid memories of close examination of family headstones down through the years.  There is a connection that is made and it is an important part of family history.

Mav thought all those flowers at that headstone were so pretty -
and he wanted a closer look.

Back at home I relaxed on the back patio and just mulled over the whole day. A beautiful day with family - so very grateful.

love my view of our place - and my husband, son and Goose  :)

The patio looks so nice.  Everything is assembled and set out.
I am excited for gatherings out here this summer!

It feels so livable!  We will be able to fit a lot more people, too.

I had thought the pool was about ready... little did I know...

the long view

Mav's Family Birthday Dinner

May 29, 2023
Memorial Day was wonderful.  We packed a lot in.  Because Mav had been sick over the weekend, we waited until this day to have his family birthday celebration.  That meant we would be combining Mav's 3rd birthday party with our Memorial Day dinner and visit to Mama's headstone.  I think Mama would have loved that - a good representation of the circle of life that she was always so adamant about.

GranGran and Uncle Jonathan making some last minute
adjustments to Mav's birthday present.

waiting patiently for birthday cake  :)

Look!  There it is!  (Julie and Zac were lighting candles)

Oh how I love this little boy.  He was so excited to have us celebrating him
and singing 'Happy Birthday' to him.  He was singing along, too.  :)

Took a few tries to blow out the candles...

Jackson tried to zero him in... but Mav waved him off.  :)

Mav huffed... and he puffed...

And then he had a little help.  :D  ha!

Looking very pleased  :)

Daddy and Zac looking on

Mav wanted to demonstrate to me how Carlile's mat works.  :D

I loved this view - spotted both Daddy's and Zac's
hats resting on the coffee table while we ate lunch.

Zac brought his leftover homemade ice cream from the church ice cream
social last week.  Perfect with the chocolate birthday cake!  Yum!

You can really get a good look at Carlile here.

Sweet Mav reaching for his present from Aunt Julie.

She got him blackberries and blueberries - his favorites!  :D

Thank you, Aunt Julie.

This is Maverick's listening face.  I was telling him who all his present was from... Grandpa Jack, GranGran Marvin, Grandma Laura, and Uncle Jonathan (who did the work of putting it all together).  That sweet boy is thinking... okay Grandma... now let's get outside and see my present!  ha!

And here it finally is!  The big tractor with the water tank!  Mav had spotted this months ago and asked for it and ever since then has asked every time he comes over if his tractor and water tank had arrived.  We would always say no, but he would always ask.  Then today he came in and I heard him say something about getting his tractor and water tank after lunch.  I wondered if his parents had spilled the beans?  But nope - he was just absolutely certain that it would come.  And... it did!  ha!  The boy was right!  And he sure does love it!  :)

It really is cool - that water tank really works!
This boy loves to work for real!
