Ladies day trip to Canton

The last Saturday in January was a lovely and unseasonably warm day.  It was perfect weather for a ladies day trip!  We had decided earlier in the week to drive over to Canton to view the Bald Eagles at Mississippi Park.  Unfortunately, that unseasonably warm day meant that there weren't any eagles to view!  Although we typically see lots of eagles at this park, we only caught a glimpse of one lone bald eagle waaaayyy across the river at the top of a tree.  Oh well.  We simply changed course and had a marvelous day exploring Canton.  Of course, the company was perfect.

We showed Rojina the flood level marker showing how high the flood waters got in 1973 (on the right) and again in 1993 (the tall post on the left).  It gives one pause.

As we were standing there we heard a train coming and all started 'pulling our arms down' to make the engineer whistle to us for Rojina.  He kindly obliged, multiple times.  :D

Then it was Melina's turn to teeter totter with Anna.

We finally realized we were hungry and headed to find food.  Brenda had been to this little pizza place before, so we decided to try it out.  It was terrific!!  Not only was their pizza good (with choices for everyone, including vegetarian) but they had tasty hand dipped ice cream for dessert.  I tried their cherry amaretto and carrot cake flavors.  YUM!!!

After lunch we walked across the street to check out this adorable looking store, Creative Country.  What a fun little shop!

I loved this plaque that Anna pointed out.  :)

And then I noticed the blue one at the top - love that one, too.

After shopping we walked back down to the riverfront.

The lady in the shop had told us about this new overlook on river.  

What a great overlook!  We had never seen it before...

...even though it is just up the way from Mississippi Park.

The river was so beautiful that day.

Melina

Along with the events pictured above, we spent some enjoyable time driving around the town and looking at the various styles of architecture showcased in many lovely old historic homes.  We also drove up through the campus and may have made 1 (or 2?) bathroom stops!  It WAS a carload full of women!  :D

I couldn't think of a better way to spend that lovely afternoon in January than with these wonderful ladies.
