Pasture Lane progress in January

I last shared about the demo that happened in December at the Pasture Lane farmhouse.  Here is an update on the progress throughout January.

January 6, 2022

Jackson has been putting in long hours at the Pasture Lane house.  Sooooo much work to do and every day he discovers another catastrophe.  Mold was the discovery today... and more rotten wood.

there had been a big leak under that toilet

and the corner of this upstairs bedroom is also rotted - like the room below it

massive hole in this floor where it had been rotten

There is water damage of some sort pretty much everywhere...
windows leaking underneath and on the floor here.

And then there is this... this is the corner of the bedroom downstairs.  You may remember they found that soft area?  This is the floor joists and baseplate and corner joists... the main structure of the house.  And it is totally rotten.  You can see down to the basement there...

How did this happen?  Apparently whoever built this house did not use any house wrap.  They just put wooden siding directly on foam and then walls.  And it all rotted.  This house is only a couple years older than the house we live in - but you sure wouldn't know that.

January 10, 2022
Jackson and Jonathan replaced this whole section of seal plate and floor joist.

They had to reinforce the stud wall in that area, as well.  To do this they had to put a jack under the wall to hold the wall up while they took out the bad part and put in the new part - so it wouldn't drop.

They did a great job on this huge project!

Marvin and I went by the Pasture Lane house, once he was finally negative for covid, to see how things were coming along.  Jackson has been working so hard.  Quite a job to do (mostly) by himself.  I LOVE their new front door - very nice!

This is that area from the corner of the bedroom where they had to do so much intensive work.

New french doors

Jackson has such vision.  I would never come up with the ideas he has but when he explains them to me I can see in my mind that they really ARE going to look SO cool!  He is painting that ceiling black.  Yes, black!  This is the wooden slat ceiling in the living room and up to the walkway area upstairs.  The walls and fireplace will be white - the ceiling and some trim plus the windows will be black.  He described it and I can picture it - it really will look sleek and modern.

that ceiling fan will be switched out for new lighting soon...

also this light fixture...

This is the post in the living room that he has to keep because it is load bearing.  When he removed the outer sheetrock he discovered it is simply two 2x4's with a piece of ½ inch plywood in the middle.

a look at the front door from the inside

Marvin checking out the work on that corner of the bedroom.  It looks great!
Hard to believe that area once looked like the first photos in this post!  Amazing.

In the basement, Jackson has removed the tile ceiling and will replace it with something else.

He has removed the sheetrock on the bathroom in the basement.  He will be removing that huge hot tub bath and streamlining this to a smaller bathroom.  This is by far the largest bathroom space in the house.  There is also a full size shower on the other end of that bathroom so no one will miss the hot tub bath...  That area will become a nice storage closet.

upstairs on the landing

more leak repair work - in an upstairs bedroom

And finally, this is the kitchen area.  The cabinets and countertops will be in soon.  Jackson is wanting to get all the walls painted and then install the flooring after the cabinets and countertops are installed.  This place should begin to look a lot different in a few weeks...

Puzzle #11 - Masterpieces - Heartland Collection Fireworks Finale - 550 pieces

This was a very fun puzzle to put together.  It was complex but not frustrating and had lots of interesting parts.  The pieces snapped together fairly well and were in mostly good shape.  Could make out the print on them, too.

This puzzle makes me think of Jackson - his favorite holiday has always been the 4th of July - even choosing to get married in July so they could set off fireworks at the reception.  :)  And I always appreciate when there is a poster included for close viewing.  Will have to pull this one back out in July!

Finished on January 31, 2022

Goose in December and January

I love Mr. Goosey-Goose so much!  He is ornery but he is growing and learning and getting better.  He can still bark like he will eat you up, but he is a sweet and good boy inside.  He has come so far since we first got him (as a dumped puppy) and he will get where he needs to go.  He is so good with Maverick and loves our family so much.  So glad he is part of our family.  I can't stop taking photos of the crazy boy.  :)

Dec. 12, 2021

I noticed that Goose had gotten himself into a bind on the playset.   I could see he had chased a cat up there but then he didn’t know how to get down.  He was pretty upset and kept going back and forth between the slide and the rock wall - sort of attempting to come down then getting scared and stopping.  Marvin went out to coax him down but it was a losing proposition... Goose was too scared.

Jonathan went out to help - he can pick Goose up - pretty much the rest of us can’t.  :)   It is good to be young and strong.  :)

Here comes Goose...

Saved!  :)

Goose telling me... "I almost died out there!  Did you see???"  :)

Sweet Goose giving lots of love to Jonathan.  :D

January 23, 2022

Jonathan and Goose came to say hi... :)

Why do I love this dog so much??

Sweet Goosey!

And yes, he still thinks he is a lap dog.  :)

He is just so dog-gone cute!

Bye Goose!  :)

January 29, 2022

I had let Goose out to go to the bathroom and he took off away from the house.

He went down in the brushy area and wouldn't come back -
so I had to get Jonathan to go get him.

Silly Goose... good thing Jonathan loves you so much!
