Dear Susan invited us to help her celebrate her birthday at
The Enchanted Lily, a lovely flower/gift shop downtown. The owner, Joy, showed us all how to make landscape pots and then we got to make one for ourselves. What a fun idea for a birthday party, Susan! We loved spending the evening celebrating YOU!
Okay, now for the
full story...
As many of you know, I am NOT crafty. Not even in the slightest way. In fact, the mere mention of the
word craft can throw me into a full on traumatic hot flash! :) But, I love my friend Susan who is the epitome of a classy, crafty person and I was determined to make a landscape pot. Plus, I had Alicia by my side so I figured she could help, right? :D (note - dear Alicia has the most wonderful habit of praising your effort as she smilingly corrects your mistakes. It is a much appreciated trait!)

| Joy, the owner of The Enchanted Lily, giving a tutorial |
As promised, during Joy's tutorial I felt my body go into a massive flop sweat hot flash. ugh. I kept thinking that if I could just get a little air all would be well. I stepped outside a couple times but this one was a doozy. There was no turning the tide...
So I decided to try to get my mind off of it and start on my landscape pot. Of course, I had missed a bit of the tutorial, but hey, what could go wrong? ;) I went up and chose some pretty flowers and greenery then returned to my pot. "I can do this," I thought! About that time another wave of heat flooded me and I think I stuck those flowers and greenery into that pot in about 2 minutes! If there had been a timer to hit when I was done I am quite sure I would have won a prize for 'fastest finish'! (not the goal, eh?) ha!

| Alicia's pretty landscape pot |
By this time dear Alicia was helping dear Deb so I just decided to call my masterpiece completed. I don't think that is exactly what you are supposed to do with a landscape pot... for one thing, I believe you are supposed to separate the flowers, not just clump them all in. ha! :D But, I did it!!!

Now let me tell you a bit about Susan and how special she is. First of all, I love Susan for loving me!! How she manages that, I am not sure!! :D But Susan is first class all the way. We first met years ago when Renee K. lived here and we had a group of ladies who would meet for lunch monthly. Shortly after Renee moved back to California I formed a book club with the remaining ladies. We laugh now when we think back and realize that we never actually got through the first book, much less any others. BUT, we have enjoyed many
ladies luncheons together! Last year
we lost Kelly when she moved to Virginia, but the rest of us still try to get together periodically to enjoy each others company.
Susan is (and has always been) known for her gourmet
cooking skills, her decorating style and her flair for pretty much everything!! She has a great sense of humor and a full bodied laugh that I love. She has a heart for this community and volunteers her time through many organizations. She is a thoughtful friend, a loving wife, and mother to two great kids. And I am blessed to know her.

I still have my landscape pot! It is still sitting out on my table here at home and I smile every time I walk by it. It is a great reminder of a wonderful lady and a dear friend. :)
