Camus House to Inverlochy

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

Part 1 of this day - too much for one post!

We woke up at Camus House after a lovely nights sleep and headed down to breakfast.  Louise had 'made to order' for each of us.  I chose scrambled eggs, sausage, and mushrooms.  Tasty.  It was a lovely setting for breakfast with a serene view of Loch Linnhe.  We would all highly recommend Camus House to any who will be traveling to the Glencoe/Onich area of Scotland.

Julie and I spent some time walking around the grounds of Camus House admiring the gardens and the view of Loch Linnhe.

again, the sun/clouds changed as I was standing
there taking photos.  I thought this view across from
Camus House was mystically beautiful.

We got on the road, with Jennifer at the wheel again (a great blessing!), and headed north. For the first time on the entire trip, we finally stopped for gas.  I have to say, that little diesel Hyundai did great on gas mileage!

We then drove down to Inverlochy Castle - the ruins, not the hotel.  It was quite interesting to walk through.  We read that Robert the Bruce killed the entire family there... oops.  (Robert the Bruce is an ancestor.)

Then over to Inverlochy Castle Hotel.
"One of the descendants of Alexander through his son, Samuel, was Helen Magruder who married Lord William Frederick Scarlett, third Baron Abinger, a Scottish laird.  They built and lived in what is now Inverlochy Castle Hotel in the Scottish highlands, where they became known for their kindness and generosity.  Queen Victoria visited them and said she 'never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot.'"  (from Rachel's essay)

This is definitely no longer a place for our family!  If the hotel Bentley didn't let us know... the Ferrari sitting in the car park got the message through!  :D  We just walked around the parking lot a bit then got back on the road.   BUT, this was our first and only sighting of the 'Hairy Coos'!!   :D  Success!!
