A new barn coming!

Exciting news!  There is a new barn coming to Willis Creek Ranch this summer!  Jackson really needs a foaling/breeding barn and we finally realized it would make the most sense to build a new structure and make it into what we need.  The guys have been talking to area companies, including, of course, Morton Buildings.  We already have 2 Morton barns on the property and thought that might be the way to go.  I have to say, however, that we were all soooo disappointed in Morton.  The salesman was not very helpful - in fact, he never even got out of his car when he came to give them a bid.  I am not sure what he was thinking, but he wasn't very interested in working with the guys to build a new barn.  (his car was parked right in front of our existing Morton horse barn... so he had proof that we have indeed done this before).  Anyway, it all worked out and we went with a local company.  They will build the shell and then the fellas will work to finish out the inside as they need it.  That will take some time, but I think it is going to be a good thing, overall.

The final decision was made on location of the new barn.  The guys were getting a sense of the space and envisioning what will be needed.

The new barn will be located where this outdoor arena is currently.

We all took a walk over to the new barn site to look around.  The fellas were able to explain to me exactly where it will be, how big, and what it will look like. I can picture it now and it will be good.

I had wondered how I would feel about having another barn so close to the house.  But it will be on the north side and so that will provide some windblock, which is good.  Also, it will be a nice looking structure.  I like barns.  :D  It really is the best location in that it will create almost a culdesac area (the guys would prefer to say 'good turnaround') in front of the two horse barns.  That makes a lot of sense.  It will also be accessible to the main horse barn.

It will be where you can see the yellow... behind my ash tree.

I was driving in and stopped to take this photo... imagining the view when the new barn is there.  I think it will look just fine!

Daddy and Dawn - walking in the wind

Daddy and I went by Jackson and Brianna's new place, where they were again working diligently, so Daddy could see their progress.

Then we headed out to the lake for Jim H. 90th birthday celebration.  His actual birthday was back in January, but the celebration was on this sunny Saturday in April.  Jim is a hoot and I enjoy every second of being around him!

I had to laugh later on when I looked closely at these photos - it sure looks like Daddy is holding that little pink backpack that is on the chair behind him!  :D  ha!!

Jim and Daddy - two great guys!

Matthew was up and went fishing in the pond - success!

Loved getting these photos of James and Aasha Lee on Easter Sunday.  Just needed to have Rojina be in a picture, too!  :)

After the beautiful spring-like days, we woke up to snow on the ground.  sigh...  the good news is the ground was warm enough that it didn't stay around very long. Had about 3 inches of snow on top of the grass.  It was pretty, but I was done with winter!!

cute Aasha Lee

The skies were threatening, but we never got a storm.  Just a little bit of rain.  The humidity was high and the winds were strong - just unsettled weather all around.  But it sure is pretty!

the grass is growing so strangely this spring...
great fluffy tufts in some areas, then bare patches in others.

here is one of those bare areas...

Zac brought this delicious balsamic glaze to Sunday lunch - so tasty!

This made me laugh!  Anna sent this photo to show me she had completed one of the puzzles I gave her. Her kitty seems to enjoy the puzzle, too.  :D  ha!
