Multiple January Snows

The week after the ice storm, we got more winter weather.  Again, we were stuck in the house for a few days, but we never lost power with this storm.  That was actually the beginning of several weather events that sort of all blended together.  At this point I have lost track of which snow we are on... is it Tracking snow #8 or #9?  I am not sure.  But I do remember that the first snow arrived on the 29th of October so the old wives tale would say we will have 29 snows.  I am hoping that is not accurate!!!!  :)

Here are photos from the last three weather events.  (They all sort of came back to back)  It might not have looked like much at first, but there was ice mixed in there and that always makes things more interesting.

January 18, 2020

That cover was mostly sleet and ice.

It got pretty as the day wore on...

Snow came in on the 22nd.  These were big flakes!

We got a call about 5:00 pm from our UPS driver.  He had some packages for us but couldn't make it up our drive.  (boy do we understand that!!)  We went down to meet him at the main road. It was so nice of him to try so hard to get ahold of us and deliver our packages.  Quite impressive!!

More snow came in on January 23.

January 24 - Then this one was a heavier snow - high moisture content.

this time we got about 6 inches of snow

by January 25 the sun was out and it was pretty!  (Plus, the road grader had bladed the road!)

This is way better than that grayed out look when the ground and sky are the same color.

January Ice Storm

We had our first ice storm of 2020 and it was a doozy.  We did lose power a few times, but thankfully it was only out for hours at a time, not days.  I was sure feeling for the power guys out there in that awful weather repairing lines.  They had to come out here 3 separate times because tree limbs kept coming down in the area.  The power lines to our house are underground, but we still lose power when lines on the road go down.  They did a great job of keeping up with everything!

We didn't leave the house for several days (wasn't possible) but we just hunkered down and read and watched some movies and got caught up on things.  Of course, I wasn't the one having to deal with the outside chores.  Poor Jonathan and Marvin had that job.  :(  Everything is so much harder in the ice.  But all is well and maybe that will be the last one this year.  :)

Of note - while it was so sad to have to cut down several of the evergreens along the driveway, it was definitely a good move.  We recovered from this storm much faster than in previous years because we had spaces where the sun could break through the trees and thaw the road.  So, it was a good decision.
