Society Horse Show weekend

Friday, August 4 was the day we left town for the state fairgrounds to set up our 'home away from home' for the next three weeks.  We headed down early so that we could attend the Society Horse Show, which starts the week before the actual fair begins.  This year Jeremy and Shonda pulled Mama and Daddy's camper down with us so that they could also attend the Society Horse Show.  We are so glad they were able to join us!

We have arrived!

Hello Shonda!

After getting set up we went out to eat supper at Kehde's BBQ.  How on earth had we never gone here in all the years of going to Sedalia??  That problem is now solved!  We went three times over that three weeks (twice with Jeremy and Shonda!)  :D  ha!

We ate dinner (the first night) in the old train car part of Kehde's BBQ.  Very atmospheric and fun.

You can see the old luggage on the overhead racks.

And oh my... the food!!  It was delicious!!  So good!!

Jeremy had catfish, Shonda had ribs.

Jonathan's curly fries looked like
they were made from 3 full potatoes!

Combo beef and pork plate.

After dinner we returned to the fairgrounds and headed over to Mathewson Center for the Society Horse Show.  Great evening with great friends!

Saturday morning was a little drizzly, but we were able to take a tour of the fairgrounds nevertheless. We were hoping the Coliseum would be open and were a little disappointed to find the stairs closed off.  But a man in the office saw us and told us to just open the main arena doors and go in to look around.  So kind!

And of course, I couldn't wait to show Shonda my beloved Swine Barn!  She gets it now.  :D  :D  :D
All that was missing was for the lights to be turned on.  :)

Then it was back to Mathewson for more Society Horse Show.

this little girl was adorable

Shonda and I were trying to read what was on this lady's hat/tiara.  We finally realized it said 'Happy Birthday'.  Then when her class was lined up for judging, one of the other ladies (a competitor) started singing 'Happy Birthday' to her.  Everyone joined in.  :)

The icing on the cake was when she won 2nd place!  Good birthday present.  :)

Marvin and Jeremy visited with this fellow in the horse barn.

Yup... we had to head back for a late lunch at Kehde's BBQ!  Just as good the 2nd time around!!  But this time we sat on the main floor.  It was decorated with old train station memorabilia.

That is a mushroom & swiss burger (the Kady burger)
and I can't begin to express how incredibly yummy it was!!!

INCREDIBLE pie!

I was so happy to see an organist back at the show.
Last year they played canned music.
The Society Horse Show just needs an organist!

What a great weekend and start to 'fair season'.  :)

63 years

Mama and Daddy celebrated 63 years of marriage on Friday, August 4.  We are all so blessed by their union.  Daddy wanted to get photos of their typical morning activity - sitting on their front porch in their pajamas enjoying their cups of coffee.  :D  Mama agreed and so here we are!  ha!  I'd say 63 years have been very, very good to them.

Then on Sunday they both found a surprise awaiting them.  Daddy had asked me to have flowers delivered to the church to celebrate their anniversary.  But what he didn't know was that Julie and I also decided to have a bouquet there to celebrate his birthday (on the very next day, Monday).  So Mama had a surprise of the anniversary bouquet, but Daddy had a surprise with his own birthday bouquet.  Julie picked the flowers for Daddy's bouquet from her own wildflowers.

Sunday with Jeff and Shari

Sunday after church we gathered to have lunch at Julie's house.  Julie made nepalese food for us and it was oh so good!  It was something new for Jeff and Shari and they really enjoyed it.

After lunch we took a tour of Willis Creek Ranch - walking and driving over the whole property.

We ended up in the horse barn where Marvin demonstrated some horse training techniques utilizing Governor and Shadow.
