Exciting Day!

You may remember that Jackson purchased Grandpa Jack's old truck back when he was 15 years old.  That beloved old truck has served him very well and continues to serve as the vehicle that pulls the horse trailer.  But, a 3/4 ton truck with an 8.1 liter engine is not doing too well on gasoline for in town driving, as you might imagine.  Since we simply must have that truck last as many years as possible (so that we can continue to pull the horse trailer) and since the operating costs have gotten so high (think 8-10 mpg!!!!) we decided it was time to try to find a better option for Jackson.  He is definitely a truck guy, but we just couldn't afford another truck (even used trucks are sky high!) and felt that really wouldn't help enough with gas mileage, so we began to look at cars.  As it turns out, this is a pretty good time of year to do just that!!  We found a 2013 Chevy Malibu greatly discounted and with a terrific APR and warranty and drove it home today!  How exciting!

checking it out...

Of course, we do things in groups around here, especially when it involves someone getting a new car. :)  Grandma and Grandpa loaded up and went down with us to check out the car and they ended up finding one they like as well!  Who knows, they might be back down to that dealership in the near future.  :D

there is a gleam in their eyes!!   :)

It is SO pretty!!

One funny coincidence... on the way down we were talking about a favorite 'car guy' we knew years ago.  He was the fella we bought all our vehicles from and even brought multiple family members to him for their vehicles.  He switched industries back in 2009 and we thought he was selling insurance in south Missouri.  Imagine our surprise when we walked into the dealership today to see him standing there!!  It was wonderful to see him again and catch up, but we sure hated that we hadn't known he was there so that we could buy from him!  He was as surprised to see us as we were to see him and, chuckling, acknowledged that his wife was going to be pretty irritated with him.  When we asked why he said it was because she had told him to call us a month ago when he started that new job so we would know where he was and that he was selling cars again.  He hadn't gotten around to it....  and when he saw us come in he knew what was happening!!  :)  He had seen our entourage enough times before!!  :)  Sure enough, he came up to us later and said that he had called his wife and, yup, she was irritated!   :D  Oh well.  We really do have a nice salesman down there (Mike), but would love to send business our other guys way, too.  So, if you are in need of a GM product, go talk to Roger at Bob McCosh Chevy/Buick/GMC/Cadillac!!!  He is wonderful!!

Got her home...

And he's off!   :)

September 'catch all' post

Dear friend Chris had a used washing machine that she no longer needed and she graciously offered it to Anna and Matthew.  What a wonderful gift!!  Thank you so very, very much, Chris!

Brianna got the lead role of Maria in the upcoming musical production of 'The Sound of Music'.  She is quite excited (as we all are) and even took the dramatic step of cutting her hair shorter for the role.  She is beautiful, as always, and we look forward to seeing all the kids in the performance in a couple of months.

Jackson's first look at Brianna's new haircut.

Absolutely lovely!!!!

I do believe he likes it.  :)

Our friend, Eric, came up from St. Louis to do an intensive training session with Jackson on Logic Pro (a music production computer program).  We are so grateful to Eric for his wonderful guidance and mentoring.  Brianna was able to come join them for a while and they were able to lay down some pretty impressive tracks in a very short time.  Excited about the possibilities to come...

Red Barn

This past weekend was the annual Red Barn Arts and Crafts Festival.  I always enjoy attending this event and am so glad that it is now always in late September instead of October (like it was years ago).  I can distinctly remember more than one year dodging snowflakes and gale force northerly winds as we walked through the festival.  The last several years, however, have been perfectly lovely, sunny and warm.  Yesterday was no exception.

I arrived in time to meet up with Julie and see Brenda & Megan dance as part of a group, followed by Megan dancing her solo recital number (that always brings tears to my eyes - so beautiful!).  By that time we had caught up with a number of other folks and spent some time visiting before heading to lunch.

Brenda and Megan in their dance group - ready to perform.

After lunch I picked up a few items for Christmas presents, then we watched Matthew and the True Men perform.

Can you see Matthew on the back row?

There he is!  :)

After a little more visiting and a little more shopping, I was ready to call it a day.  In years past I would stop for a Pumpkin Spice latte at Mug Shotz on the way to Red Barn in the morning.  Since they are no longer in business, that tradition fell by the wayside.  On the way home yesterday I realized that since we now have a Starbucks I can restart that tradition!  I treated myself to a yummy latte (and even got one for Jonathan, my fellow latte lover) and thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my quiet evening.  A rare event around here!   :D

Brianna's Birthday

Brianna celebrated her 17th birthday last week.  It also happened to be Jackson and Brianna's 7 month 'anniversary'.  They went out to eat at a favorite restaurant to celebrate both events.  Of course, I took photos before they left.  :)

Actually, the night before we had given her our gift - a photo album of pictures from the last 7 months.  That was followed by dancing in the living room.   :)
